It was submitted by () on Thursday, May 7, 1998 at 22:22:25 location: Orlando, Flordia date: June 1965 time: Midday sighting: Thousands of people witnessed the sighting of "flash-bulb" popping type UFO's around the launch of Gemini 9 in June 1965 at Cape Canaveral, Florida. We could see the flashes and we heard the crackling and the sonic booms from as far away as Orlando (75 miles). I have never forgotten this event because it was VERY STRANGE and like no other launch we witnessed. I was in the 5th grade at Englewood Elementary School in Orlando. Our teachers always brought us out to watch the NASA rockets go up. It was reported that the Astronauts saw the UFO's in the clouds around the rocket as it was launched. Thousands reportedly witnessed this event and it was reported in all the local newspapers at the time. I have been searching for news articles from central Florida relative to this event on the Internet. I found a small mention on the Internet of the Gemini 9 Astronauts reported UFO's followed them from the launch pad, but I have not been able to find actual newspaper articles from that date. I wonder if anybody else that was alive in Cenral Florida at the time remembers this.
