It was submitted by () on Monday, February 16, 1998 at 06:13:09 location: Fort Lee, New Jersey date: 1970 time: Mid Afternoon sighting: I am 45 years old and my wife and I were driving on RT 46 heading East towards Manhatten from New Jersey. We were about 18 at the time. From the north we saw an object comming over the Meadowlands from the Hacensack / Teterboro area. At first we thought it was a plane but as it approached we saw that it was saucer shaped. Other cars on the highway pulled over to watch as we did. It came over the highway and dissappeared behind a High Rise that I think was called Mederterain West in Fort Lee. We thought it was gone. As we started to converse with people who pulled over by us it came out and headed almost exactly back in the direction we saw it come from. It was moving slowly probably slower than the cars moving at the 55 mph speed limit on the highway. It gained altitude slowly as it moved away. Over the Meadowlands it began to accelerate to high speeds than all of a sudden it turned 45 degrees to the right and shot out of sight in a moment. We called Teterboro Airport and they said they had no sighitings that they new about. We called Newark Airport and got the same story. When we called the local Police stations in the area we found that not only the people on the Highway saw it but it was reported to the local police in multiple towns.
