UFO=Sighting:
In 1963/64 I was a student at a University just outside Manchester
England. During a lecture, at about 1:30 pm, one of the students
in the class of about 25 noticed an object in the sky over the
city.
He alerted the rest of the class who then also observed a spherical
silvery object with an apparent size of 1/8" motionless
in the sky.
The weather at that time was blue sky with scattered large white
cumulous moving from the west at about 20 mph. The observed
object
suddenly moved and disappeared behind one of the clouds. We
all
returned to our seats and the lecturer arrived and the class
began.
Approx. 15 minutes later the student who had originally observed
the
object shouted that it had reappeared. The whole class then
watched
through the window as the object moved in a jerky, seamingly
random
pattern, in and out of the clouds. After about 5 minutes of
observation we noticed two sets of vapour trails, each set consisting
of about four aircraft at high altitude, heading from different
directions towards the object. The object then shot across
the sky
at very high speed and vanished behind distant clouds. The
vapour
trails all turned towards the place where the object vanished.
At
no time was there any noise or vapour trail behind the object
and
its appearance did not change during the whole time we watched.
Many years later I read in the Manchester Evening News an article
about UFO sightings in the North of England. One of the
contributors to the article described the same event from the
other
side of the city, some 5 miles distance.
