It was submitted by () on Sunday, March 8, 1998 at 18:00:27 location: Springfield IL US date: July 1972 time: Around 3:00 PM sighting: It was a lazy hot summer's day in Springfield, Illinois. Mid afternoon, July of 1972 is my best guess. Riding in circles out on the asphalt paved tree lined Lincoln Avenue. I was a twelve year old boy giving a chubby eight year old boy a ride on my bananna seat bicycle out in front of our houses. While stuggling to keep the bicycle balanced. I heard a loud buzzing sound. I tasted a metallic taste within my mouth, and the scent of burning hair filled my nostrils. A very intense voice from "within" my head said "lookup" -- which I immediately did. Just above the trees, directly overhead, hovered a large metallic copperish colored disk. The disk was wrapped in a fiery veneer of translucent plasma. I would estimate it was the size of small house. I began to loose my balance on the bicycle and had to look down to regain it. I looked up again and it had moved off to the north. I lost sight of it in seconds. I was filled with a desire for sleep, which I fought. I stopped the bicycle, got off and asked my friend, "Did you just see what I saw?" His eyes grew wide as quarters and he shook his head up and down in the affirmative. I ran inside and told my mother -- years later she confirmed that I had come inside one day "frightend" and claiming to have just seen something like a flying saucer in the sky. The sighting became important later when I had another experience. And then another.
